The science behind removing dissolved organic carbon at the source — and the growth trial that proves how effectively it works.

The process, in short

CarbonClear uses activated carbon — but in a fundamentally more effective way than the industry standard.

Activated carbon removes the dissolved organic carbons
Activated carbon is highly effective at binding and removing the dissolved organic carbons and phenols that build up in a recirculating system.

But we add it to the feed — not the water
Instead of dosing activated carbon into the water as is typically done, CarbonClear puts it straight into the feed. The removal starts in the fish’s gut, where it is far more effective. Once excreted, the activated carbon keeps adsorbing dissolved organic carbons from the water itself — right up until it’s physically removed by mechanical filtration (typically the drum filter).

This proprietary approach removes dissolved organic carbons more completely than water-side dosing — improving FCR and fish health.

The growth trial

We ran controlled growth trials on a fish farm here in South Africa to measure exactly how effectively CarbonClear removes dissolved organic carbon from the system — and what that does to fish growth and health.

We’re preparing the complete write-up of the trial — the setup, the measured reduction in dissolved organic carbon, and the resulting improvement in FCR and fish health — so any farmer, biologist or scientist can review the results. It will be published on this page.
